Dear members of the Association:
Once again, I bring you greetings on behalf of our Association and the Executive Committee.
Please mark this date and place on your calendar: OCTOBER 26, 2008 at CHARLOTTE MARRIOTT EXECUTIVE PARK, Charlotte, North Carolina. Here, we will celebrate our Association’s 20-year history. Here, Demetrios P. Makrigiannis initiated contacts and conversations with other GreekAmericans born in the village of Megalo Horio in Greece to establish an association in America to keep the villagers connected with one another. These contacts in 1988 led to the formation of a TEMPORARY COMMITTEE chaired by Rev. Michael D. Vastakis and made up of five members to organize the association: Rev. Michael D. Vastakis, Harry J. Pappas, Demetrios P. Makrigiannis, Demetrios I. Triantafillis, and John D. Vastakis, During the organizational period, the seat of the association was temporarily held in Macon, Georgia. With the election of Demetrios Makrigiannis as the first president, the seat moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. We are currently planning activities for the celebration. We will keep you informed along the way.
Sharing times together remains the main purpose of each event that brings us together. The celebration this year multiplies many times the importance of celebrating together an event that kept our roots alive the past twenty years. Please, contact other members in your area and encourage them to attend this very special event in Charlotte on October 26. .We are spread across state lines. At this time, I am exploring the option of having a charter bus for members from New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia. A package that includes all fees for the event would be most economical and enjoyable.
During our October 26 meeting, we will have to elect new officers to lead the Association for the next term. The Association needs new ideas and volunteers willing to work. It is time for change. Please consider running for an office.
Your support for the Association remains strong. I thank you. I wish each of you and your family a glorious Resurrection, health and happiness. Whether short or long trips, do have a safe and pleasant summer.
Theodosios Liappis, President
